For car maintenance, undoubtedly one of the most important aspects to increase the lifespan of a car is preventive maintenance. The change oil and filters is equivalent to exercise and eat healthily. You should check these:

Engine oil: Check every third tank is full. Change every 5000 kilometers or three months, whichever comes first. Replace the filter at each change.

Cushions: Be alert to the loss of oil. Try them by bouncing the car up and down. The car should stop moving when you stop exerting pressure. The worn or leaking shock absorbers must be replaced. Always do it in pairs.

Antifreeze: In places of low temperatures, review it every week. In cars with transparent tank, fill to the mark with a combination of antifreeze and water 50/50.

Battery: Extreme precautions when handling a battery, as it produces explosive gases. Do not smoke or use matches near a battery. Check levels every time you change the oil. If the cell levels are low, fill with liquid for battery or purified water.

Headlights: Check the pockets of the rooms, directional, normal and high. Make sure that the headlights are pointed parallel and slightly down so as not to dazzle motorists in the opposite direction.

Tail lamps: Check bulbs lights, brakes and turn signals. Have a pair of bulbs and spare fuses in the car

Oil filter: For best performance, change every 5,000 kilometers or every three months, every time you change oil.

Air filter: Check every two months. Change it as part of the tuning.

Windscreen cleaners: Check before the start of the rainy season. Change if they are broken or brittle or once a year.

Power steering fluid: Check once a month. Fill when under level. Check pump and hoses for leaks.

Brake fluid: Check once a month. Fill with the appropriate type of fluid and check the system for leaks. Caution: Do not exceed container line with liquid.

Wiper fluid: Check to fill the gas tank. Add water and once a month; add a little liquid to clean glasses.

Transmission fluid: Check once a month with the engine warm and the parking brake set. If it is automatic, put in D (drive) and return to P (park). Now check the level and add the appropriate liquid if necessary. Caution: Do not check levels if engine is overheated.

Tires: Keep tires inflated to the proper pressure in your owner’s manual. It is advisable to have in the car a pressure gauge. Check the tires for timely detection of cracks, bulges or general or partial wear. When uneven it indicates that the tires are misaligned or balanced. Rotate the tires to 15,000 kilometers the first time and then every 10000. Keep a record of rotation.
