This article will explain you should check each month on your car. Maintenance should be seen as a basic routine. Please consult your mechanic periodically and check that at least once a month the following:
Check the car’s brakes
The verification includes checking the brake fluid. If you have downloaded it can be a sign of leaks in the system main pump, auxiliary or pipe, which has to be discarded. If there is variation in the level of brake fluid but no leaks, the decrease is due to the wear of the brake shoes and pads, so you should check its status with the mechanic. Do not forget to check the parking brake, useful for any emergency.
Belts, belts or bands
Belts and straps, whether the fan, alternator, air conditioning or power steering, tend to be damaged. Check for cracks or thicknesses and replace if necessary.
Monthly tire maintenance
Pay attention to the type of wear that occur. If the center is located, indicates that the pressure remains higher than recommended by the manufacturer, if it is sideways, it may be that the pressure is rather below. If the wear is on the side of the inside or outside, is likely to obey damage bearings or screening problems. Proper pressure prevents wear and saves fuel. Usually the manufacturer indicating ranges between 1.9 and 2 kilos (28 and 32 lb.). The pressure check should be done when the tire is cold (not having traveled more than 2 km). Do not forget to check the condition of the spare tire and rotate it like the rest of the tires.
Monthly maintenance of your car battery
If the battery has removable caps, check the water level, which must be above the cells, as they must remain submerged in the liquid. Check the battery terminals, clean them if they show corrosion with a wire brush if necessary. Replace damaged cord immediately. Make sure the gauze is tight on terminal.
Car Oil Change
Check the engine oil level, change the dates indicated, is generally recommended every 3000 or 5000 miles, though there are oils that can last up to 10,000 km. When changing, please replace the oil filter and take to check fluid levels in hydraulic, transmission and differential steering and lubrication of bearings. Vehicles traveling over 20,000 km per year require more frequent oil changes.
Visually inspect for leaks or damaged surfaces of the radiator. Check the coolant level in the radiator; fill if necessary with coolant tank. Water should not be used because it contains impurities that adhere to the walls of the engine and can cause corrosion. It is advisable to do this check every week or at least once a month and include the auxiliary tank, which is good if you avoid be doing fillings. Check the radiator when the engine is cold, the radiator cap should be clean and free of fi suras. Remove the cap and check the condition and level of refrigerant (water). Low levels can lead to overheating and engine corrosion.
